MoneyCents provides financial education and guidance only. We do not provide regulated financial advice as defined under the European Union (Markets in Financial Instruments) Regulations 2017 or the Consumer Credit Act 1995. Nothing on our platform constitutes a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any financial product.

MoneyCents Limited ("MoneyCents", "we", "us", "our") is a company registered in Ireland. We operate the website www.moneycents.ie and related digital services (collectively, the "Platform").

We are the Data Controller in respect of your personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 ("GDPR") and the Data Protection Acts 1988–2018 (Ireland).

2. What Personal Data We Collect

2.1 Data you provide directly

  • Name and email address (when signing up for our newsletter or creating an account)
  • Financial information you voluntarily enter into our tools (e.g. income, expenses, debts) — this is processed locally and we do not store it unless you explicitly save it
  • Payment information when subscribing to a paid tier (processed securely by Stripe — we do not store card details)
  • Communications you send us (e.g. emails, contact form submissions)

2.2 Data collected automatically

  • IP address and approximate location (country/city level)
  • Browser type and device information
  • Pages visited, time spent, and navigation patterns
  • Referral source (how you found us)

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your personal data for the following purposes:

To provide and improve our services:

  • Sending you our newsletter and financial education content
  • Operating your account and managing your subscription
  • Providing access to tools such as budget calculators and cashflow planners

5. Who We Share Your Data With

We do not sell your personal data. We may share your data with the following categories of third-party service providers who process data on our behalf:

  • Stripe Inc. — payment processing (EU/US; Standard Contractual Clauses in place)
  • Supabase Inc. — database and authentication (EU data residency selected)
  • Vercel Inc. — website hosting (EU region where available)
  • Email service provider (Resend) — newsletter delivery
  • Analytics providers — anonymised website usage data only

All third-party processors are bound by data processing agreements and are required to process your data only in accordance with our instructions and applicable law.

We may also disclose your data to law enforcement or regulatory bodies if required to do so by law or in response to a valid legal request.

6. International Data Transfers

Some of our service providers are based outside the European Economic Area (EEA). Where we transfer personal data outside the EEA, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including:

  • Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission
  • Transfers to countries with an EU adequacy decision

7. Cookies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies on our Platform. Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use the following types:

  • Strictly necessary cookies: Required for the Platform to function. Cannot be disabled.
  • Analytics cookies: Help us understand how visitors use our Platform (anonymised). Only set with your consent.
  • Marketing/preference cookies: Remember your preferences and help us deliver relevant content. Only set with your consent.

When you first visit our Platform, you will be presented with a cookie consent banner. You can manage your cookie preferences at any time via the "Cookie Settings" link in our website footer.

8. How Long We Keep Your Data

  • Account and subscription data: Retained for the duration of your account, plus 6 years after closure (for tax and legal compliance purposes)
  • Newsletter subscriber data: Retained until you unsubscribe, plus 1 year
  • Tool-entered financial data: Not stored server-side unless you explicitly save it; session data is discarded when you close your browser
  • Communications and support queries: Retained for 3 years
  • Anonymised analytics data: Retained indefinitely

9. Your Rights Under GDPR

As a data subject under GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to erasure: Request deletion of your personal data in certain circumstances
  • Right to restriction: Request that we limit how we use your data
  • Right to data portability: Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Right to object: Object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing
  • Right to withdraw consent: Withdraw any consent you have given at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@moneycents.ie. We will respond within one month of receiving your request. There is no charge for exercising your rights, except in cases of manifestly unfounded or excessive requests.

10. Right to Lodge a Complaint

If you are unhappy with how we handle your personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with Ireland's supervisory authority:

11. Data Security

We take the security of your personal data seriously and have implemented appropriate technical and organisational measures including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
  • Access controls and authentication requirements for all staff and systems
  • Regular security reviews and updates
  • EU-based data storage where possible
  • No storage of raw payment card data (handled entirely by Stripe)

In the event of a personal data breach that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify the Data Protection Commission within 72 hours and, where required, notify you directly.

12. Children's Privacy

Our Platform is not directed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact us immediately at privacy@moneycents.ie and we will delete it promptly.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or for other operational reasons. When we make changes, we will:

  • Update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document
  • Notify registered users by email where the changes are material
  • Display a notice on our Platform

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of our Platform after the effective date of any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
